These include construction technology and practice, site management and organization, health, safety and environmental control, planning and control of construction project and sustainable construction state. The HND in Construction Management aims at enhancing students’ capacity in managing construction projects from the technological and operational point of view. This program combines theoretical classes with practical sessions so that a student can immediately apply the lessons learned in a classroom setting into construction engagements. Halli and Civil Engineering Students will learn about construction technology, methods for managing projects and the law in construction. They will also be able to acquire considerable working exposure to aspects such as health and safety, site organization, and construction planning which constitute real and valuable elements for the proper practice of construction management. Year 1: Construction Technology: This module seeks to take students through a general overview of the basic construction systems and processes employed in contemporary structural development. Construction Information (Drawing, Detailing, Specification): Discover best practices for understanding and generating construction drawings, specifications, and details necessary for planning and executing work. Health, Safety, and Welfare: Learn about Occupational Health and Safety: legal requirements, hazards identification, and control measures at construction sites. Principles of Construction Management: Briefing of the central processes of construction project management and such important components as teaming, resources, and life cycle.
Year 2: Construction Project Management: Learn more about the abilities required by project managers to properly schedule and supervise construction related tasks in order to meet their deadlines and execute them without surpassing the required financial means. Legal and Statutory Responsibilities in Construction: Learn about contracts in construction, construction laws and regulations involving building control and statutory regulation. Sustainable Construction: Discover the basics of what environmentally sustainable building is and how it can be incorporated into current construction projects to reduce harm to the environment. Site Management: Obtaining an understanding on how construction sites are run, concerning day to day construction processes, teams, and proper progress management. Work-based Learning: Undertake some simulated company experience through placement or work-base assignments to demonstrate theoretical learning in construction organizations.
