BSc (Hons) Data science with Foundation Year
BSc (Hons) Data science with Foundation Year is a four year undergraduate degree course aimed at those students who might not have the standard entry requirements to a three year degree. It starts with a Foundation Year (Year 0) and this course prepares the students to attain the necessary academic, technical and problem solving skills to achieve success in higher education. This year also establishes a solid base of mathematics, statistics, and programming, in addition to introducing the learners to the concepts of digital computing and cyber security, so that they are in every way ready to advance to the BSc level. After the Foundation Year, students can then continue to the three-year BSc Data Science route, during which they can acquire expertise and hands-on capabilities in data programming, analytics, statistical modelling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data tools and concepts of data engineering. Data visualisation and business intelligence are also specialised in the programme, where students learn to express insights in a way that can be used to facilitate the decision-making process.
• Duration: 4 years including Foundation Year
• Study Mode: Full-time
• Assessment: Writing tasks, simulation, quizzes, and orals.
The students proceed to the three year route of BSc after the Foundation Year. This stage offers practical skills in data programming, analytics, statistical modelling, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data solutions, and data engineering. The data visualisation and business intelligence offered as specialised training can help the students communicate observations that can be used in professional decision- making.
Inclusive Entry Route: The special route is aimed at students might otherwise fail satisfy the normal standards required to enter a three- year degree, giving them a point of access to high-tech education.
Broad Skill Development: The process starts with the development of basic logic Year 0 and continuing to advance programming techniques that can handle complicated data sets during advanced years.
Holistic Data Protection: This course educates students of Cyber Security, as opposed to some general data courses, which cover general data protection in their initial stages.
Bridge to Professionalism: The Course focuses on Business Intelligence, but students are not only expected to locate information, but figure out how to articulate their findings in a way that leads to corporate decision-making.
Future-Proof Technologies: Students have an opportunity to be exposed to the latest areas, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, which are needed to create contemporary predictive models.
Parity of Qualification: students obtain the same BSc(Hons) degree title at the end of the course, as those who have joined the normal three-year path.
Year 0
- Elementary Mathematics and statistics: Developing mathematical basis of data analysis.
- Introduction to general programming logic and languages Programming Fundamentals.
- Computing Principles and Digital Foundations: Online learning the mechanics of digital systems.
- Introduction to Cyber security: Introduction to cyber security basics: How to protect the digital property and integrity of data.
Years 1 – 3
- Data Programming and Software Tools: Sophisticated programming methods to process data of large complexity.
- Data Modelling and Statistics: The use of statistical tools in order to establish tendencies and trends.
- Basics of machine learning and artificial intelligence: Predictive models and smart systems.

Career
Careers Recipients of this degree programme are very prepared to be absorbed into the fast changing global technology market. With the knowledge of how the pipeline works, collecting raw data, to the executive reporting, you can work in several specialised positions.
Data Analyst: A Data Analyst is someone who studies the business data and finds the patterns and trends in it. They prepare easy-to-understand reports and charts to assist managers in making better decisions.
Business Intelligence Developer (BI): A BI Developer is a person who converts the raw data into dashboards and visual reports. This helps the company leaders understand how they are performing and plan their strategies in the future.
Data Engineer: A Data Engineer constructs and manages systems for data collection, storage and organisation of large scale data. They ensure that data is accurate and made available for data analysis.
Big Data Specialist: A Big Data Specialist works with extremely large and complicated datasets. They design systems that will be able to process and handle data effectively.
AI Assistant: An AI Assistant helps in creating intelligent systems that support businesses by automating their tasks and making them more efficient.
Machine Learning: A Machine Learning Technician is a person who builds and develops predictive models using data. Their work helps industries to predict trends and solve complex problems automatically.
